Here it is , a forum where people can discuss their problems with PTSD and Dissociative disorders I don't know how the administrator will like it, if he will outlaw it or remove it, I don't know. I cant do anything about it anyways. lets hope that the voices of people living with PTSD and Dissociation will allowed to be heard.

I am having doubts as to whether a PTSD Forum would fit on My Therapy website. Its not like there has been a swamp of replies lol!. Maybe there are not enough people that can relate. I certainly dont want to force my ambitions on anyone, it would be a waste of my time and others. No worries, I can go post on this subject on a more appropriate website. |

Hi Firebird,
I for one welcome such a progressive move.
No one, ( in my opinion ) should be denied a voice on mental health issues within my therapy .... hence the name of this website!
Yours in admiration, David

PS., Give it a little while to take shape ....
With respect not many members visit Community Improvements on a day to day basis. I confess I'm guilty of that too!
I shall do what I can to muster up support for this worthwhile objective of yours, David

Dear Firebird
I think that A PTSD area would be of great value.
Unfortunately today even people with the best of mental health can be the victim of traumatic stress and may not realise the follow on consequences they may be experiencing are part of a syndrome. It would be good if they felt there was a forum for their particular condition as they may feel they do not fit in to the other areas.
Best Wishes Sue

I also think this is a great idea. I've met a number of people back from combat in the middle east who suffer from this condition and it's been very hard for them I think that having a web resource and non judgemental place for people in recovery from traumatic stress is one of the best ideas I've heard all week.

Why not? It can only help. Any forum that encourages others to confront a mental health issue is of great benefit. Also, if it helps to aleviate the suffering of anyone who has PTSD or Disassociative Disorder, it is a win win. leeruok |

I like the idea too, and I believe that I am very likely suffering from PTSD, and many people have said I look kind of shell-shocked. Not from combat but from life, which is a little like combat sometimes too.

I would like to thank everyone for giving me such wonderful encouragements. I am working on an outline for the forum which will contain such things as: What is PTSD, A bit about the history of its study. How it is caused, Types of PTSD (Complex PTSD). Role of Dissociation in Stress Disorders, Symptoms, and treatments and meds that are known to help. We can also do stuff like, managing flashbacks, hypervigulance and other symptoms. I can look up info from respected sources in the trauma field , International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation and articles from respected authorities such as Bessel. A. van der kolk MD. No way on the forum can we be able to diagnose PTSD, but just to offer information that is currently lacking but gaining interest. Where to put the forum? As most people who have PTSD also have a diagnosis of depression, I could start a post there?.
