However, only Full Members (+) have these voting buttons.

If your Doctor insists you stay on a troublesome med, do you end the Doctor/ patient relationship?
Lets assume you already have a new Doctor lined up.

Thank you for taking this poll,
I am very interested in hearing how you have managed this disorder, found treatment, and gotten better,
I also want to hear if you are still struggling.
And hope that open discussion will be beneficial for all .
PS, never give up !!!!!!

Hi Lynn,
This was a great poll. Some of the questions were very hard to answer: like "Do you have the support of family and friends"....their support waxes and wanes with my mood, which family member it is and their mood or predispositions towards beliefs about medications, psychiatric llnesses etc., plus I don't really have many friends and don't see my family very often.

Also, about the road to getting well. It has been so up and down and down and down and up and down and so-so for me for so many years...No it definately is not a smooth road upwards towards being well.

I will NEVER use the word "Recovery". I hate it. It makes me feel like I am failing when I do notget well like everyone seems to.

..I believe what I have is a chronic illness and what I can do is do things, and find a good pdoc, who colaboratively works with me to help me find things (meds, lifestyle changes, etc.) to help me become more "Resilient".

...I discovered that terminology (Resilient" at a Mental Health conference I went to a few weeks ago and decided to grab it for myself.

I may never become completely well again, but I can help myself (with help from my pdoc) become more resilient so I don't get as sick again!!!

Also I really, really think for me a good pdoc relationship is probably THE most important thing. Without a pdoc who listened, took my concerns seriously, made decisions with me etc. I would never have kept trying so hard to get better than I was.

Good poll. Over 14 yrs or so, I've had 3 acute manic episodes and hospitalized. I've gone off my meds a few times. But most of the time, I've followed my prescription and then asked my pdoc to alter it. The one exception was Stelazine, which I took myself off of b/c I felt zombified on it, and was literally drooling while on it. Seroquel is much better for me as anti-p.

Gee, THANKS you gals !
I feel empowered !
and thankful that this poll was used.
Resilient, yes, I like that term Aqua Marine.
Much more positive, than Recovery,
I was shocked to see that four people answered 'yes" to not being heard, and respected by their P-Docs.
That is so sad !
Stelazine, OMG, I have had that too EA, and Mellaril,
One of them made me feel very angry, and I had to get off of it.
I don't care for those pills, I was Zombified too,
All I wanted to do, was sit on a public transit bus and ride from one end of the city to the other,
I refused them after awhile, and all hell broke lose. with the med, nurse, but my Therapist was good, He confided the nurse had issues, omg.
The family and friend support question was hard for me also,
When I am 'in a fit' every body runs for cover, or laughs it off.
When I am down I am generally left alone, thank God. I guess.
The pills, my family and friends are always harping about the pills, "get off the pills, they're making you crazy" yadda, yadda.
If they only knew how much better I feel with the pills most of the time.
I still can't believe I have this illness, so, I am having trouble accepting it.
Still searching for proof, by looking back at my behaviour,
My first date with the P-Doc was under the advice of a friend, so, I must have been in bad shape.
and GP's too, told me to see a P-Doc,
I sometimes would like to see a video of my actions.
I think I would be appalled.
argh, I am rambling again.
I want so much to be able to gather my thoughts, and be concise.
Maybe I need good old pen and paper to do so,
Take notes then type,
I am happy that you took this poll,
I think it has shed some light, on what we all go through.
TEAM SPIRIT !
rah rah, ciss, boom bah !
I know, I am silly, lol !
Love you all,
Lynn
