What happens then at age 45 I wonder?

-EA

dx bipolar 1993

Hi EA,

After 45, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and cancer enter the "top 10" causes of disability.

I'm rqather surprised that violence is so far down the list. One in 100 people will develop sz but one in three WOMEN (this doens't count men or any teenagers) will be in some kind of violent relationship at some point. (please corret me if statistics are wrong.. its something like 1/3 though)

is this list in any particular order?

The average age expectancy for szchophrenic men is 53, after that you're on your own, I guess. (SZ women, 59)

Hi Bruce,

I believe this information is incorrect. Could you please tell us where you got these figures?

Dr. Long,
You say, "After 45, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and cancer enter the "top 10" causes of disability".

Does that mean depression, bipolar and schizophrenia:
1) simply move down the list, but remain in the top 10, or
2) are less disabling as we age and are not on the list, or
3) we just end up mentally ill AND have the "after 45" disabilities as well?

Great Post. I was awaken. I am 31 years old and have lost about a decade of healthy years with mental health problem which I was not aware of. I was a loner then, afraid to mingle with people. Now I am getting better and better since I joined "mytherapy".
