I agree with this slide I understand it. I don't know why people don't seek help, but I understand that they don't. I have had chronic depression since age 10 or so, but I never sought help until it was almost too late at age 43. At that time, I thought I was going to implode, or it would have been in my interest if I could've.

I had even mad it thru my 40th birthday depressive phase, more irritable, sad, anxious, than ever before. forty years old, never married, no kids... That year, before my birthday in September, I even made comments that I didn't have to be 40 if I didn't want to, that there was a way out.

For another 3 yrs, I still didn't seek help, other than getting the phone numbers for a psychologist and a psychiatrist from a friend that year before I turned 40.

For me, there was a stigma in seeking mental health help. It was worse than cussing in my family.

Now, I think it will be even harder for some to get help, not just with the recession, but also because insurance does not seem to cover mental problems well. Also, there used to be a mental ward in every hospital, but not anymore. so, those with mental illness, have to go often further away to a mental facility if there is one.
