What is meant by psychoeducational programs?

Thanks.

Hi Freestar,

"Psychoeducational programs" are lectures that teach an individual about their psychiatric disorder and its treatment.

This introductory slide show is a tiny example of a psychoeducational program. I hope to add many more such slide shows to our community lectures.

Oh my god Phil, this is brilliant. It makes me so annoyed that people with an illness and specifically with a mental illness are at times treated as incapable of understanding what is happening to their own minds. May be this is not the intention of the professionals but that is what it seems like to me.

Knowledge is the key to many things in mental health- acceptance, treatment, stigma, isolation- so many things can be improved by openly speaking about what is happening. I think some professionals may be afraid their patients will know more about their own health and this makes them less inclined to remove the veil of mystery. I agree whole heartedly with psychoeducational programs.

I wonder if "sheltered employment" could include working three 12 hr shifts, at night? I seem to fit most of the characteristics, except I still technically work full-time, but it is only 3 days a week.

There is no was I could work day shift, too many visitors, doctors, dietary and every other kind of personnel imaginable. Too busy, everyone talking and moving around.
