Before I could really comment, I would need to know how the slide show is going to used. Is is for a website? A presentation at a conference? A class? The essential different is whether or not you will be speaking in addition to the slide show.

Dr. Long,
I saw this thoughtful and thought-provoking film about Hitler some time ago. I believe it is called 'Downfall.' The movie left lingering thoughts and many questions........'guru' |

What struck me most was that there were no women in the slide show. Is it because there have never been women leaders with these types of disorders? And if so, why would that be? ...Aqua
Good point Aqua, Throughout history, except for the last 50 years, males with Narcissistic + Paranoid + Antisocial Personality Disorders have ensured that women never were given enough power to challenge their male dominance. What is your viewpoint on this? Phil Long M.D. Administrator |

What I got out of the slide show as of now, is motivation to work harder in therapy so I don't stumble down the path of my parents who in the realm of our little family unit, might be described as dictators, in a certain sense.
Ugh. Sadly, up until seeing the light after being hospitalized and getting counseling, I have for most of my life, followed in the misguided footsteps of my mentally ill and untreated adult-child "parents."
I can understand then, why people who are part of an oppressive regime--(either working for the regime or the oppressed)--why such a bad regime would not be challenged. Why? I think a big reason why a horrible regime would remain in place is because people just don't know of anything different or better. The people might believe it is just "the way it is."
It's my hunch. Personally, I feel more empowered when I start learning about more and more alternatives for myself and loved ones and my personal rights and privileges.

I agree completely with that point and thought a similar thing. However, later this afternoon I started wondering about some of the Queens in the monarchy of Great Britain for instance.
I do not know a lot about them, but I have always found it fascinating that within the monarchy the throne was passed to women during times that were particularily patriarchal. I do not know if this is true, but I have heard that the term "Bloody Mary" refers to Mary Queen of Scots, perhaps she has a past that fits some of your discriptions.
Interesting lecture regardless, but I'd really be interested to see what those personality traits look like in a woman.

Hi aqua
I have read extensively about the female monarchs specifically, Mary Queen of Scots. I am fascinated by her in particular. I am not convinced she fits into any of the categories discussed here, although, I am only going by what I have read, and perhaps didnt grasp all of it.
As was the custom of the time, and to preserve her life most likely, Mary was taken from her Scottish home, and was raised in the Court of France, and was married to the Dauphin at a very early age. 13 or 14 I think.
She was eventually to return to lead her Scottish homeland against the English, and was manhandled the entire time. The men set the rules....she followed them. A couple of times, she tried to do things differently to no avail. She was eventually imprisoned by Queen Elizabeth until her beheading.
Queen Elizabeth was by far a more dictatorial ruler, and even she, I dont believe held those characteristics such as Hitler had.
Now...I wonder, where does someone like Karla Homolka fit into the picture Dr. Long? What personality traits would she have to have to be a party to Paul Bernardo's sickness?
lol....sorry for the MQS thing...I love her.
Laurie
