| Are we alone...did God plant life only here...and then leave? Biblical accounts suggest exactly that. We screwed up in the Garden and now we are banished til we die...and then, only if we qualify... can we join him again.
Be all that as it may, science says life is probably everywhere. But, considering that we've been monitoring the galaxy for thirty-one years (SETI)... how come we haven't heard from our relatives?
What is the SETI Institute? The SETI Institute is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to “explore, understand and explain the origin, nature and prevalence of life in the universe”. SETI stands for the "search for extraterrestrial intelligence".
When was SETI established? The Institute comprises three centers, the Center for Education, the Carl Sagan Center for the Study of Life in the Universe and the Center for Public Outreach. Founded in November 1984, the SETI Institute began operations on February 1, 1985.
Instruments used[edit] Instruments used by SETI Institute scientists include the ground-based Allen Telescope Array, several ground-based optical telescopes such as the Shane telescope at Lick Observatory, the W.M. Keck telescopes & IRTF in Hawaii, the Very Large Telescopes in Chile. SETI researchers also use space telescope facilities, mostly the Hubble Space Telescope, the Spitzer Space Telescope and the Herschel Space Telescope. SETI scientists are also involved in space missions, the New Horizons mission toward Pluto, the Cassini mission, currently in orbit around Saturn, and the Mars Rovers Opportunity and Curiosity.
We are searching, without success...for life beyond Earth. Sources of radio transmissions from parts of the galaxy older than our system have had more time than us to develop and are therefore more likely to be capable of making the transmission. Yet... we here nothing from these "older" systems. "Success"...would pretty much disprove the biblical story. As long as we are "alone"...we remain within the theological sceme of things. If we find our biological cousins...we'd have to invent a new mythology. Can anyone suggest what that mythology might involve?

Well, let's see...nobody reacts to questions regarding our origins. How about questions regarding our morals?
When very young...I believed. As I grew old...I withdrew In time, with patience, ...I grew Now, I see...I grieved And knew...

I see some revival going on. Good...the place is still serving a purpose. Record warm weather across the states...waltzing into winter.

Really interesting and important questions, Metasegue.
I can only repeat what I've learned/been taught.
No original thoughts here really, -Medicated

Hi Meds,
That's OK...thanks for posting. I have some off the wall views on our origins. I do think we're here for a purpose. Actually, I think we are the purpose. What we ultimately become may decide the fate of all life. If...we represent all life.

Maybe if aliens came to earth they would just force their mythology on us and if we don't convert they just incinerate us with their ray guns. Like the Spanish inquisition but with aliens.
The Twilight Zone and the Outer Limits made a few good episodes of aliens failing at understanding humans, us being weaker than them they accidentally kill us, them doing experiments on us to see if we can handle what they can to see if were as good as they are lol them viewing us with arrogance and disgust for how we live/are compared to them etc.
Maybe they came and thought, "boy this place sucks" or they listened in on us and don't like us enough to make contact, maybe they know of our technology and that were trying to contact them and so have us blocked with theirs lol they reject us. Maybe us making contact with aliens might be the biggest mistake humanity ever made, what if they don't like us any more than 2 nations who are at war with each other on earth do but the aliens have much more advanced weapons they can use from space. Maybe there's some space pirates out there right now looking for a planet like ours to loot and pillage lol.
Could be there's millions of planets across an expanse of centillions of miles or a larger number of light years of space where the creator put the planets with intelligent life far enough apart in hopes they'd never reach to destroy each other. Each planet could be judged individually not being influenced by another. Maybe the nearest planet with intelligent life on it is so far away it could never be reached and maybe that was the way it was intended to be, maybe humans/aliens weren't meant to go outside of their planet.
